Chex had an allergic reaction to something

Do you see the swelling? it's hard to tell unless you know what you are looking at. Her side and under her belly has swelling, can you see the bumps?

It is harder to see them on this picture.

If you look on the right side of her chest by her leg you can see a hanging lump. That is edema, just some fluid build up. We are still not sure what happened but possibly the new fly spray we used. This all started right around the time of getting the new spray. Within a couple of days.

Hard to see in this picture but her left rear leg is very swollen near the hoof, that area closest to the hoof is the pastern, and above that is the fetlock, it looks more like a stump right now.

This picture is more clear. See the left leg, on the right of the picture. Now you can see that there isn't much definition to that area just swollen. That is all part of the allergy. Fluid moves to the lower parts of the horse usually.

It's a little easier to see the bumps here.

Here is our AMAZING vet. Dr Yu. She is young and is very versed in all updated information. She tells you every bit of information, on what she is doing, why, what things are for, why something is happening, why we do this and that, why this treatment for this ailment. You get the point, no pun intended. LOL Above she is teaching my daughter who want's to also be a vet, how she gives an intravenous dose of medicine. Chex was given Banamine and Dexamethasone. Banamine is a non steroidal anti-inflammatory drug for the swelling and in case she had any discomfort. The Dexamethasone is for the allergic reaction, like benadryl for us.

Dr Yu is putting it in Chex's vein.

Then she pulls back a bit to make sure blood goes into the syringe, then she injects the medicine in.

She doesn't like to stick the horse twice so she just keeps the needle in and switches out syringes. I love our vet.

Then she said that Chex needed a bath, it helps with the swelling and to get the flyspray off in case that is the culprit.

So a bath she got, she loves to get a bath. She is an attention hog. If I am cleaning her stall she will back up to where she is touching me so I will scratch her butt.

So pretty and clean.

Soap art.

Eating while you bath is I guess like being at a spa for us. LOL
Here she was this morning eating her hay, can you see it hanging out of her mouth. So cute.
This morning we had to give Chex more of the same medicine. The Banamine injected and the Dexamethasone in her mouth. My daughter wanting to be a vet asked if she could give the injection. I agreed. I told her exactly what to do and she did perfect. Chex didn't even flinch.
So proud of my girl.
Rubbing her boo boo.

This is what little ranch boys do in their spare time LOL
